Lord Parshuram is the sixth Avtar of Lord Vishnu. He is also known as Rama Jamadgnya (राम जमदग्न) and Rama Bhargava(राम भार्गव).
There are so many written proofs in puranas of existence of Lord Parshuram.
Lord Parshuram was the son of Sega Jamdangni (जमदग्नी)[one of the Sapta Rishi(सप्तर्षी)] and Renuka(रेणुका). By one ancient story he was born in the putreshi Yagnik by the blessing of king of gods lord Indra.
He is worshipped as the God of seven kokan(सप्त कोकणचा देव). Because he pushed sea 400 steps back to create the seven kokan(सप्त कोकण) [seven areas that were created by lord Parshuram by pushing sea back].
Where the devotees created the holy temple of the lord Parshuram that region is called as the Parshuram Kshetra(परशुराम क्षेत्र). There are so many Parshuram Kshetra in India and now they are placed in Orissa, Assam, Gujarat, and Panjab. Also there is one story which says that the Kerala is created by Lord Parshuram.
There is one story about Lord Parshuram that he killed his own mother. According to that story Renuka:the mother of lord Parshuram. She went to fech the water from the river and she accidentally witness the prince Chitrarath(राजकुमार चित्ररथ) who was recited the poetry and dancing with Gandharva(गन्धर्व) in water. She loose her control and dreamed his company. And due to that the pot get dissolved in water and she was late for fire sacrifice(अग्निपरीक्षा) .On other hand Sega Jamdangni was waiting for his wife. Cause he needed that water for fire sacrifice. And then Sega Jamdangni ordered gave axe to his elder son and order him to kill his own mother but he refused because in Hindu culture killing women is the worst sin and also she was his own mother. Then Rishi Jamdangni transform him into stone and one by one his sons refused except Lord Parshuram and he excuted his own mother. Because of his devotion to his father. Then by his devotional act Rishi Jamdangni offer him one desire. He then asked his father to bring his mother and brothers back to life. Rishi Jamdangni lost his anger by the brilliance and devotion of his son and bring them back to life.
Also there is one reference according to that the Rishi Jamdangni had one cow named as Surabhi(सुरभी). Surabhi can fullfill every desire. And due to that the mighty king Kartavirya(राजा कार्तवीर्य) asked him for the Surabhi but Rishi Jamdangni refused and then Kartavirya attacked the ashram(आश्रम) and killed the Rishi Jamdangni. To avenge him the Parshuram decided to kill every Kshatriya(क्षत्रिय) who was using there powers for selfishness and injustice. He killed King Kartavirya. In turn Lord Shiva teach him the art of kalaripayattu (कलरीपट्टू)[the mother of all martial arts]. And Lord Shiva gave him the parshu(परशु)(axe). Due to that he is refered as Parshuram. {Also Bodhidharma (बोधिधर्मां) who was the founder of ‘Zen Bodhisum’ also practiced kalaripayattu. When travel beyond the boundaries of India (today’s China) to spread his knowledge of Bodhisum. He teached the martial arts to the some ancient Chinese tribes and that art get divided in several forms}.
There is another proof of existence of Lord Parshuram in Ramayana. When Lord Ram break the bow named as “Shivdhanushya” (शिवधनुष्य) at that time Lord Parshuram gets angry on Lord Ram. And he challenge lord Ram but after his anger vanished he gave him the bow and blessed Lord Ram.
After this Lord Parshuram appears in Mahabharata time . He was the guru(गुरू:teacher) of Bhishma(भीष्म). And he fight with him on some condition of amba and defeated Bhishma.
Some proofs says that Lord Parshuram is one of the seven immortals(मृत्युंजय). And he wiped out whole kshatriyas 21 times from the earth. He was only one bhramin-kshatriya. He was the legend who stands for Justice each and everytime.
